Learning the Meds.

With more and more medications and medication classes being put on the market, students have difficulty keeping up with it all. One of the best ways to learn the medications, side effects and precautions is to group the medications in their class. For example: group all beta blockers on one page so that learning the common information of all beta blockers becomes easier. Information particular to a medicaiton can be listed next to the med on the same page. I am including a link to a medication card such as I describe. It is a PDF form that you can type in and print out. Hope this helps.

Dosage Calculation cont.

Hello class,
I see that there are some of you are having difficulty with dosage calculations. I have made a brief presentation that I would like to share with you this week. I am also including a short video that you might find helpful. The video uses a similar technique for calculations with the difference being that instead of two fractions there is only one in the video. Please remember that I have on campus classroom hours every Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 AM in room H304 if you need face to face assistance or you may contact me for an appointment (see first blog post).

Make it memorable!

Pharmacology can be a dry topic which can make it harder to learn. Finding creative ways to learn the material is important. Since our topic this week is on medications that affect heart rhythm, I have included a link that shows how a little creativity can help you learn a complex topic. Your assignment is to find or create a fun and interesting way to learn these medications and share it here or on the class discussion board. Make it fun, make it memorable!

Unit 1

We are about half-way through the first week of the semester and I am checking in to see how you are doing. Hello Everyone,
Welcome to Introduction to Pharmacology. My name is Cathy and I will be your instructor for this course. This course will help you gain an understanding of basic pharmacologic prinicples and prepare you for entrance into the healthcare field.

Even though course content is delivered online, I will be available on Fridays between 9:30 and 11:30 am for tutoring. Office hours are Mondays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and Thursdays 3:00 to 6:00PM. You can also reach me by email cl4024@gmail.com or phone 555-555-5555 and I will respond within 24 hours on weekdays and Monday morning for weekends.

After you have read the syllabus, please post a response here that you have read it and will abide by its contents. Also feel free to post any questions you may have regarding the course, textbook, or assignments. Others may have the same questions and will be glad that you have asked.
